Kings of the Sevens

History

On this page you will find a complete record of every Borders Sevens competition since the very first one back in 1883 at Melrose. This will provide a valuable historical record which should make for fascinating reading and save many people a lot of time when researching into the past!

Some clubs have a complete record of scores in the finals, while others only hold records of winners and runners-up. Some have records of winners only. We will try and obtain scores from the tournaments by various means and as we find out this information we will update on the relevant pages. We are also including details from the “Prince of the 7s” tournaments at Walkerburn, which isn’t part of the K7s circuit, but now heralds the end of the Borders Sevens season.

The points system is currently as follows: 10 points for a win, 7 points for a beaten finalist, 5 points for a beaten semi-finalist, and 3 points for a beaten quarter-finalist.  In the Pools competitions the four teams who finish second in their Pools will be awarded 3 points.

The winners of the K7s titles are listed here for the 25 tournaments which have taken place since 1994. The team with most wins so far are Melrose (8). The other winners are: Jedforest (5), Gala (4), Watsonians & Kelso (3), Selkirk (2).
